It is not a surprise that lip fillers are the most sort after injectable treatment right now. With pop culture programs such as Love Island and the popularity of Kylie Jenner causing the surge in popularity, it has been reported that in recent years the demand for lip fillers has increased by 200%! Elle also reported that, when the episode of Keeping up with the Kardashians aired, in which Kylie Jenner admitted to having her lips enhanced, Google searches for lip fillers peaked globally!

So, what are lip fillers?

Today advanced fillers are made from Hyaluronic acid, a substance that is naturally found in the body, and because of just this, our bodies will happily accept it and the results will be incredibly natural. Here at the Azthetics Academy, we use the brand Teosyal by the company Teoxane for our dermal filler treatments.

Once injected into the lips, the filler will slowly disintegrate over 6-20 months depending on the procedure. The fact that fillers are far from permanent can seem like a disadvantage for some, though due to this, they do not come with many risks. If something was to go wrong, another injection can effectively dissolve and fix the mistake!

The lip filler consultation

We always suggest having a consultation prior to treatment. This can be done prior to the treatment or on a separate day. During a lip filler consultation, the practitioner will need to be able to:

  • Assess the client’s lips and determine the most appropriate form of treatment
  • Take the client through the whole procedure, including aftercare
  • Answer any questions the client may have

Our lip filler course will not only teach you the practical skills to perform the treatment but will teach you the theory of lip augmentation. You will understand the structural anatomy and physiology of the lips – with reference to key surrounding structures including arterial and venous vasculature, in order to create a bespoke treatment plan for all clients.

The lip filler treatment

Lip fillers can be a complex treatment even for the most experienced practitioner, due to the individual nature of each patient’s lip structure. This is why our lip filler course pays particular attention to utilising injections skills that are reproducible in any size and shape of lips, leaving you confident in your skills to give each and every client the lips of their dreams. And, by the end of the lip filler course, you will be comfortable in approaching a wide variety of lip augmentation presentations.

Complications can arise during any treatment, so as in all of our courses, we will ensure you leave feeling confident that you can effectively manage them. If you would like a more in-depth look into complications, we also have a course dedicated to this subject.

Aftercare post lip filler treatment

Lip filler after-care is something that is a concern for many people after they have had lip injections. But if you have the right knowledge you can reassure them and advise them what to do post-treatment.

For around 24 to 48 hours post-treatment, swelling and bruising may occur, which is quite common. To help the lips heal & reduce the tenderness of the treated area, an icepack and arnica gel can be used. There are also things clients can avoid, to ensure their lips settle beautifully:

  • Excessive or very strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours
  • Hot temperatures for at least 24 hours
  • Excessive salt for 24 hours, as this can dehydrate
  • Having a facial massage for at least two weeks
  • Drinking through a straw for the 1st day, as this puts pressure on the lips
  • Drinking alcohol for at least 24 hours
